Good Vocations Fosters Job Success in Middle Georgia

Retired from dentistry, Dr. George Snelling is a respected presence in the Martinez, Georgia, community and provides volunteer oral health care to those in need. Dr. George Snelling also contributes to a number of charitable organizations and serves on the Goodwill of Middle Georgia board and has also engaged as president of Good Vocations, a non-profit managed by Goodwill of Middle Georgia.

The organization focuses on offering those with disabilities dedicated job skills training. Through hands-on work experience, people with severe disabilities receive excellent benefits and competitive wages.

One success story is Carolyn, who has learning difficulties and could not afford medical expenses after a series of layoffs affected the local painter’s union where she worked. She ultimately joined Good Vocations’ AbilityOne Program and gained a reputation as a team player who was able to fulfill quality assurance mandates. Carolyn has thrived in her roles and earned promotion in 2015 to Day Shift Basewide Custodial Team team leader.

Taking Advantage of Last Chance! Goodwill Store Markdowns

Over the course of his career in dentistry, Dr. George Snelling spent more than two decades guiding an Augusta, Georgia, dental practice. Since retiring, Dr. George Snelling has focused his attention on philanthropic efforts. He has been particularly involved with Goodwill of Middle Georgia, providing the organization with more than $2 million in matching grants in his position as vice chairman.

Established in 1902, Goodwill Industries International provides in-need individuals access to affordable clothing and various household goods. A Last Chance! Goodwill Store is a unique Goodwill location offering goods and items that went unsold at traditional Goodwill locations. Prior to sending these items to be recycled, Last Chance! stores provide individuals a final opportunity to buy them at a significant price markdown. Last Chance! stores receive upwards of 10,000 new clothing items each week.

By visiting www.goodwillworks.org, individuals can sign up to hear about Last Chance sales, which feature even larger price markdowns. Nearly 90 cents of every dollar of revenue generated by a Last Chance sale is reinvested into the community in the form of educational services and professional training.

The Last Chance! Goodwill Store in Middle Georgia is located at 2823 Watson Boulevard in Warner Robins. The store is open Tuesday through Thursdays only, allowing Goodwill staff adequate time to unload and restock clothing on a weekly basis.
